Mountain Day Smith's tradition of Mountain Day is a surprise day off, declared by the ringing of the college bells on a morning chosen for its promise of ideal fall weather. Classes are cancelled for the day, and students are encouraged to explore the beautiful fall colors of the Pioneer Valley. Here in Oregon, we carry on a semblance of that tradition with a yearly scheduled Mountain Day in the fall. This year, we met in person(!) for a walk in Forest Park, along the Macleay Trail. A wonderful time was had by the Smithies and their family members who participated.
